In this past month I've made a bold leap from being an office manager into a courageous new chapter. I moved up the coast into Mendocino County to spend a summer or more apprenticing with my grand-mentor Sue, learning about the art world and dedicating myself to my painting.

This is the piece I painted as my office job came to an end. By one of those particularly auspicious "non-coincidences" it is also the first painting sale, made to a brilliant poetess friend of mine.

The eldest daughter of the boat repairman was the “silent girl.” Rey is what her father called her, but her younger sisters called her Trey short for Treya. Since Mira & Freddo had nothing to do, they took to trying to make up stories about her. "She is... escaped from the silent ward."…"She is…" Really they couldn’t even think of stories about her, it's like the thought of her sucked up the words and left them silent as well. It was unsettling.

asabikeshiinh (Work in Progress)

Asabikeshiinh means dream catcher in Ojibwe. The language is divided into animate and inanimate. Asabikeshiinh is the inanimate of spider.

"Spider Woman used the clay of the earth, red, yellow, white, and black, to create people. To each she attached a thread of her web which came from the doorway at the top of her head. This thread was the gift of creative wisdom." (Southwestern Native American creation story)

"Star" from the Chronicles of Mira

When the sun began to rise it was time. Star the white starred horse waited patiently by the door for their journey. For those of you not in the know, Star was born from the constellation Pegasus. All the mares of her family were born there. And they know how to follow the paths of destiny...

"Look before us" And on the path before her Mira could see, if only for a moment, as if the dirt were full of star dust luminescent. "There is only one path always. It is your destiny. And it is time."

And Sybil turned slowly towards them and the strange lantern in her hand increased its glow. And Mira could barely breath for the beauty. Spaghetti suddenly like cardboard in her mouth she watched Sybil cross the room in a fluid move watched as her laughter and lips graced Mentor’s cheek. Watched as a chair was placed at their table, with a special notch to raise the lantern. And Mentor laughed “Sybil, turn down your limelight a bit, you’re goin kill this one.”

Once before the beginning of time, there was only the great dark matrix. It was not Nothing mind you. And it was not dark for the absence of light but for the presence of all that would come. It was fecund chaos. And it was Aware. And Darkness knew: that birth comes from death that disintegration is required for creation and that there is no end. And with this knowing the Darkness sacrificed even her present state and exploded into galaxies of bright light and universes and you and me and instead of blood she had oceans and instead of milk she had honey and instead of her own eyes she had all eyes.

According to this painting I come from a long line of artists extending from the beginning of time. Each image is from a different time period: primitive, the various centurys, 1920s 1960s. The next spot waits for me to step into place. Behind me an angel prepares the future...

The Vessel of Remembering from the Chronicles of Mira (Legendary Life Mentorship with Shiloh Sophia 2009)

A week and a day passed and Sira and Mira walked the paths of their childhood. Nodded and leaned into each other as only those who have been there from the beginning are able to do. And then the day came when Sira turned her head towards the west and then looked back at Mira. "The call is strong enough that I can feel it now as well. You will not stay much longer. I have a gift for you for your long journey ahead."

I See You

I painted this painting on New Years Day from start to finish. It was in response to a friends demon of "you don't know shit, you fuck everything up" I am in the process of having an extending conversation with the angel in the painting. Her eyes and witness are unwavering. She told me the name of the painting is "I See You" And she does. She sees me and my potential. It is pretty unnerving.

"I see you. I know you. And I know what you want to become.
The time has come to allow the truth of who you are to become your life."
